Polly: Life on Two Wheels to Global Charity Work
Well, I first got involved with MotoChic® a couple of years ago in the Sisterhood of the Traveling Bag competition! I competed against four other women in an attempt to win this awesome Lauren Sport bag! We all traveled separately across the United States and Canada. I had so much fun doing a ‘test ride’ with this bag!! I met tons of people along the way, which at the time was a little out of my comfort zone. But I was in a competition! And I had to win!!! In all reality, this bag helped me to break out of my ‘comfort zone.’
Since then, I basically DO NOT travel without it! I’ve taken it on Mission trips to Nicaragua and Uganda. And in November I will be taking it to India! I always take it with me when I ride either my Harley Sportster or BMW GS 700. I typically ride with the Christian Motorcycle Association but I have also joined a riding group with my church, DC3 (Deep Creek Community Church). That group is referred to as ‘Logos,’ the Word of God.
My bag has been to PA, OH, IN, MO, KS, CO, UT, AZ, NM, TX, OK, KY, TN, MD, VA, WV, NC, SC, GA, FL, AL, MS, LA, AR, IL, Canada, Central America, Africa, and Europe!!! Woot Woot! With many more places to go! Now that I type that, I’m like WOW!!!
“It’s been with me on deployment for the American Red Cross, too! What better essential to have during a flood or a hurricane, since it is water-resistant! And right after Hurricane Harvey we were brought back to Texas for their winning the World Series Parade, which was also dedicated to all the first responders who helped during the hurricane!
While traveling by motorcycle for a trip, I usually pack basically for three days. I can fit two extra days of clothing, paperwork (maps, hotels, bike blessing stickers, journal) toiletries, makeup, sunglasses, eyeglasses, cheaters, extra pair of comfy shoes, chargers, my quick access bag (ChapStick, pain relievers, Q-tips, candy & gum) a pen, and my wallet! Whew! Traveling by plane is a little different but not much… I then replace a few items for a travel pillow and blanket or scarf.
I recently started running 5Ks, for which I can definitely use the smaller MotoChic® bag, the Valerie. I also take it everywhere! Many times I bring both bags! And I use my bag to transport my yoga and PIYO equipment… shoes, towels, straps, blocks and water!”
