Fall 2022 Update

Motochic® Diaries

Dear Friend,

Hope you made the best of those warm sun rays and long summer days! Labor Day weekend was spent with good friends kicking up some dust by day and soaking in the hot springs under the stars at night in the high desert of Surprise Valley, California. After 100+ degree temps, we’re ready for the leaves and temperatures to Fall.

In the words of the late, great Anthony Bourdain, “Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.”

Whatever new adventures the change in seasons brings your way, enjoy the journey.

What’s in your bag?

Erin Sills is a land speed motorcycle racer, race team owner, adventure riding coach, co-owner of WomenRidersNow.com and retired Facebook executive. She is currently featured in the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum’s exhibit entitled “America: Nation of Speed”, has set multiple top speed records over 200 miles per hour and was a 2022 AMA Hall of Fame nominee. But this busy woman is just like the rest of us … she wants all her goodies packed conveniently when she’s on the go. And she loves to pack them in her Lauren bags!

With the Lauren’s backpack straps, it is perfect for a sporty ride around the city.

“I’m not a big Zodiac sign person, but there is definitely something to me being a Gemini … the sign of the twins. There are multiple sides to my personality; in riding and in life that has borne out as long as I can remember. I spent 30 years in the corporate world where I was responsible for large teams, wore expensive suits, and traveled globally. All the while, motorcycles – complete with their sweaty leather, grit, and grime – were also a huge part of my life. I’m retired now, and motorcycles have found their way to consuming the majority of my time and presenting their own dichotomy.

I love the focus and adrenaline that sport bike riding on asphalt brings. Holding a tight line at high speed, navigating a challenging turn while always aware of your surrounding … cars, animals, gravel, etc. I also love the challenge of slow speed, highly technical adventure riding. Dirt, boulders, steep rocky inclines, sharp mountain switchbacks … knowing a 4×4 might be coming at you around a blind clifftop corner.

There’s no surprise I could not make myself choose between the Lauren Sport bag and the Lauren bag in white leather, so I got and use both. With the Lauren’s backpack straps, it is perfect for a sporty ride around the city. It’s also very smartly sized to fit just right into the side case of an adventure bike for the mountain roads.”

Who says you have to choose? I want textile for the adventure world and leather for the city scene.

“Regardless of which I’m carrying, the contents are the same. I rarely leave home without my laptop, but sometimes you need to write “old school” notes so I carry a pen and small notebook also. My favorite Nars lipstick helps compensate for the bad hair days when I have to toss on a baseball cap. And of course motorcycle keys, sunglasses, reading glasses (I’m 57, lol), and my California Highway Patrol 1199 wallet with important licenses.”

With my Valerie bag at the gym.

“Hitting the local F45 gym is part of my daily routine, both for mental clarity (my sister-in-law calls it my therapy) and for performance on the bike. The Valerie bag is just the right size for all the essentials – keys, phone, ID, credit card, and post-workout recovery Nuun tablets.

One of the things I love about MotoChic is their commitment to thoughtful design.  I once mentioned to Debra that I wished there was a better way to attach the Lauren bag to my rolling luggage when traveling. Voilà … problem solved brilliantly!”

“My team at Women Riders Now also loves the MotoChic product line. See WomenRidersNow.com’s review of the Lauren Bag here. Motochic was also selected as one of WRN’s top gift choices for 2021 and Women’s Choice at the IMS shows.”
